Meet Lutsandvo

Lutsandvo is the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's Valentine's Day baby! He was born on February 14th, in the early hours of the morning, and was welcomed with fanfare from the rest of the African elephant herd. His name is fitting since Lutsandvo means "love" in the Siswati language.

Lutsandvo, or Luty for short, was born to an experienced mom, Ndulamitsi (nicknamed Ndula) and one of the largest bull elephants in the herd, Mabhulane (nicknamed Mabhu). Luty was welcomed by his big brother Vus'Musi and a half-sister named Khosi.
All reside at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and are doing well.

Luty is the first elephant calf to be born in the main yard with the rest of the herd present. He is agile, full of energy, independent and loves exploring. Luty gets along well with the herd and is a playmate for many of the other young elephants!
